Family-friendly dental care

As a Townsville family dental clinic, we know that a healthy smile starts with family care. Our compassionate team creates a comfortable environment for patients of all ages, from toddlers experiencing their first dental visit to parents seeking regular care. We focus on preventive dental treatments, education and gentle oral care techniques that make every family member feel at ease, supporting long-term dental health.
Dental examinations and hygiene
Dental examinations (i.e., dental check-ups) and dental hygiene appointments are recommended every 6 to 12 months. At Dental 206, our team takes the time to discuss your dental health, address any concerns and offer guidance on best practices to support your ongoing care. Regular check-ups and professional cleaning are important to maintain oral health, as they permit early detection of problems and more conservative dental treatment.
Dental hygiene (i.e., professional scale, clean and polish) appointments help maintain teeth and gum health. Close attention to oral hygiene can reverse gum inflammation (i.e., gingivitis) and help slow down irreversible gum disease (i.e., periodontitis), which can lead to mobile teeth and premature tooth loss. Our Hygienists and Dentists aim to provide the highest standard of care, while striving to minimise discomfort.
Cosmetic dentistry
We help you enhance your smile with our cosmetic dentistry services, offering a variety of treatments such as teeth whitening, veneers and smile makeovers. Our experienced team works with you to create a personalised plan that meets your aesthetic goals, giving you a confident, radiant smile you will love.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are primarily placed for cosmetic reasons, which offers the teeth a new external facing of porcelain. Small spaces between teeth and mild crowding can also be resolved through careful veneer design and placement. Some tooth preparation is required for this procedure and our Dentists will discuss if porcelain veneers are suitable for your individual case.
An alternative to porcelain veneers are composite resin veneers (i.e., tooth coloured filling material). This process requires much less tooth preparation, as resin is bonded to your tooth and shaped to improve their colour and shape. Composite resin veneers offer a cost-effective and conservative way to improve your smile.
Crowns
Crowns can be made from different materials depending on their intended purpose. They can improve the strength and cosmetic appearance of the tooth by surrounding it and “holding” it together. Discoloured teeth with large restorations can also be made to be stronger and look more natural when crowns are provided.
A bridge can replace a missing tooth by utilizing one or two adjacent teeth. The replacement tooth is fixed to crowns or retentive clasps and bonded to the adjacent tooth or teeth.
Root canal treatment
When the nerve system of a tooth is damaged (e.g. through trauma or bacterial infection), it often leads to toothache. Although such damage can initially result in severe pain, such pain can be relieved and the tooth can often be saved, rather than removed (i.e., extraction).
Root canal treatment (also known as endodontic treatment) often gets a bad name, however, it shouldn’t be this way. Dentists consider root canal treatment to be a life-saving raft for a seriously damaged tooth! Root canal treatment involves cleaning and filling the root system of the tooth, which can provide an excellent chance to keep your own natural tooth. Following root canal treatment, a tooth may require a crown to protect it from fracture, thus maximising its lifespan. Crowns are more common for root-treated teeth located towards the back of the mouth.
Replacing missing teeth
Bridges
A bridge can replace a missing tooth by utilizing one or two adjacent teeth. The replacement tooth is fixed to crowns or retentive clasps and bonded to the adjacent tooth or teeth. A bridge is fixed in position and does not require removal in daily life. A bridge can be an excellent option when a dental implant is not desired or possible, and when adjacent teeth can simultaneously benefit from the protection or cosmetic improvement offered by crowns.
Dental implants
Dental implants are often the best option for replacing a single tooth or missing teeth. When and where appropriate, a dental implant (i.e., an artificial root made from biocompatible titanium) can be surgically placed by local Specialists. Dental implants generally require 4-6 months to heal and become solidly fixed into the jawbone (also known as osseointegration). A new tooth is then secure fixed to the implant. Dental implants can look, function and feel like natural teeth.
Dentures
A partial denture is a fantastic “bang for your buck” option when many teeth are missing. The denture is held in position by clasps or flanges onto remaining teeth. Like a new pair of shoes, they often require a period of time to feel “worn in”.
